Fred Neil Scholarship Recipients Announced!

Scholarship Winners Give Their Testimonials

Allyson Atkinson

Allyson

My name is Allyson Atkinson and I want to start off by saying I am so grateful for the opportunity to have applied for this scholarship in the first place, let alone have won it for three years in a row. Each year my books get more expensive and especially this year with things being online and an adjustment into my senior year. Being an English major has been great, except my books each semester are about $500.

With my semester schedule changing because of things being online, I am working fewer hours part-time at Atlantic Pest Control with my mom. They have been the best with accommodating my schedule and I have learned so much in my short few years here. Thanks to my mom and my bosses Mark, Charlie, and Phil at Atlantic, I was blessed with this opportunity and I want to say a big thanks to them! And lastly, a huge thank you to the MSPCA's Fred Neil Scholarship.

Karly Stillinger

Karly

My name is Karly Stillinger, and I am a recipient of the 2020 MSPCA’s Fred Neil Scholarship. I am extremely grateful and honored to receive this scholarship. I am currently a student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and I am studying Social Work. With this scholarship money, I am able to continue my education and for that, I am truly thankful.

Madison Leigh Rumsey

Madison Leigh Rumsey is a Maryland native who graduated this year from Severna Park High School, ranking 13 of 439 in her class. Madison is an incoming freshman at the University of Georgia where she will major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

"My sister has Crohn’s disease and there is no cure. This is a major reason why I have chosen to study biochemistry." Watching her sister endure and live with this disease motivated Madison to pursue biological sciences. Madison intends on studying and researching the depths of molecular biology so she is able to understand chemical processes and molecular structure that can help combat such diseases, such as Crohn's.
